Our Other Special Friends: Lisa and Martin Reeves have been extremely supportive by updating news about the park and cafe on their website, alderleyedge.com. Lisa and Martin are an enthusiastic, inspirational young couple who live in the village with their two little girls. Their website is an excellent source of local information and news and also provides a valuable forum for contributors to express their views on topics of local interest.

Other News:

April, 2009: Our Group met a reporter and photographer from the MEN/Express Newspaper to talk about our plans for the cafe in the park.David Hill (Project Manager) from Birse, the company building the bypass, was also there to offer his support and has already given an undertaking to help with the necessary infrastructure required. We hope such publicity will bring our idea to the attention of local people and business and encourage their support as well. Read the article:

June, 2009 The organisers of Alderley Edge Fete surprised The Friends by kindly donating monies raised at the Fete; over £1,000.00 and a very kind and encouraging gesture! Our sincere thanks go to Emma and Sarah from the Lavender Tree, John Berry and Lesley Smith from Alderley Edge Cricket Club, Travel by Design and Alderley Edge School.

June, 2009 The Friends were joined in the park by George Osborne, local MP and father or two young children. He continues to be very supportive of the cafe; mentioning it in his constituency letter and questionnaire.

July, 2009. The Friends adopted their Constitution and are now able to fund raise and work more closely with Officers from Cheshire East as well as Local and Parish Councillors. It was decided that the cafe would be named 'The Cafe in the Park'.

August, 2009. The Friends met Officers from Cheshire East. It was agreed that the costs of planning would be carried by the Council and also that a cafe could be considered an 'amenity' for the village. At this meeting it was also proposed that the public loos in the park should be opened on a regular basis and as soon as possible.

September, 2009. Local businesses/individuals have been invited to make 'initial expressions of interest' in the cafe.Ideas or special requirements can then be built in at the outline planning stage. See alderleyedge.com

A Parish Plan meeting will take place on the 22nd September, 2009. The Friends are hopeful that their plans will be incorporated in this. See local press for further details

Now that we are a properly constituted organisation, we can have more say in how the park is run and monies spent. We also have the ability to fund raise and achieve 'Green Flag' status. If you would like to be part of this, please help us by encouraging your family, friends and neighbours to join us - we only need names and contact details.Thank you.
